Artist Trace Balla inspires local kids

Creativity, environmental sustainability, storytelling and a whole lot of fun were takeaways for all at Ocean Grove Library last school holidays, thanks to guest artist Trace Balla.

Award-winning author and illustrator, Trace Balla, led art and storytelling sessions for 44 children & young people across three sessions over two days as part of the Ocean Grove Library September holiday program.

8-12 year old participants created beautiful watercolour paintings featuring native flowers, which are currently on display at Ocean Grove Library. Young people worked with Trace using the Bellarine Community Health Youth Guerrilla Garden as inspiration to create a zine called Sow What?? The Green Teen Zine.

Nikki, Children's & Youth Services Librarian, said of the events.

"I am always in awe of the talented authors/illustrators we get to meet in this role, to hear their stories and have the opportunity to appreciate the art that they create. Trace inspired such enthusiasm from participants of all ages. She was truly an amazing person to meet."

The events were a collaboration between Bellarine Community Health's Healthy and Connected Communities team and Geelong Regional Libraries.
