Due to protected industrial action being undertaken by some Geelong Regional Libraries’ employees, we regret that the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre will close early at 4pm on Thursday 16 September. The returns chute will be open as normal. While we are reluctant to close libraries, we are required to do so if the safety of our staff or library visitors may be compromised due to insufficient staff on site. The closest alternative branches to Geelong Library & Heritage Centre are:
At this stage, other branches will be operating as normal. We will keep you updated if there are any further impacts to library services and operations; please keep an eye on our website and social media for the latest information. We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Why is this happening? Throughout 2020 and 2021, Geelong Regional Library Corporation (GRLC) has worked with the Australian Services Union (ASU) and its representatives on negotiating a new Enterprise Agreement for the Corporation. Throughout the bargaining period, the GRLC has negotiated in good faith and made a number of compromises, and we look forward to a positive resolution. The GRLC respects the right of ASU Members to take protected industrial action. Our priority is to ensure that our service to library members and the community continues safely and with the minimal possible disruption. We are committed to providing safe spaces for library visitors and staff.
