Geelong Regional Libraries actively involved in an exciting hub development in Queenscliff’s town centre. The Queenscliffe Hub will be a multi-use facility that will deliver information services and support cultural development for those who live in and visit the area. Under one roof will be new spaces for the Queenscliff Library, the Queenscliffe Historical Museum, the Visitor Information Centre and the community. 

A total of $5.75 million has been provided for the construction of the Hub from the Federal, State and Local Government including grants from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and the Regional Infrastructure Fund and Community Support Fund. 

In December 2019 well known and award winning Melbourne architecture firm Kerstin Thompson Architects (KTA) won the contract to design the Queenscliffe Hub.  KTA have been working closely with the Project Control Group to design a space that brings together these discreet services and institutions in a cohesive and integrated way.  A concept plan was completed mid-May and is being shared with the Queenscliffe community for their review and comments.

Alongside a carefully-curated collection, the new library will feature free Wi-Fi, access to upgraded technology including public access PCs, tablets, a 'bring your own device' environment throughout and RFID self-check stations. The Geelong Regional Library Corporation has been actively involved in all discussions about how the new space can best meet the needs of library users and other members of the community. The new library will have more room for programs and children’s activities and throughout the building there will be additional informal seating where visitors can read, study, access free WiFi and catch up with friends and colleagues.

Construction of the new Hub is due to start in December 2020 and will take approximately 12 months to complete. While the new facility is being built, we will provide a transitional library service to the Queenscliffe community. The details of how that service will operate are being worked through between Council and the GRLC.
