Giving future preps a head start

Future preps at seven schools around Newcomb, Geelong are getting ready to start school with a little help from Geelong Regional Libraries and Soroptimists International Geelong.

Around 200 children recenlty received a showbag to help promote development of literacy and numeracy skills ahead of starting school. The bags contain a story book, coloured pencils, dice, playing cards and some fun worksheets.

This collaboration between Geelong Regional Libraries and Soroptimists International Geelong was formed in 2013. Children and Youth Services Librarian Nikki Tatasciore and a representative from Soroptimists Geelong attended the transition day at several primary schools to hand out the bags and chat to the new preps and their parents.

Good luck to all the preps starting school this year!
