The much-loved Highton Library reopened to the community today following an exciting refurbishment. Cr Ron Nelson, Chair of the GRLC, officially 'cut the ribbon' on the library which has been closed for the past four weeks to undergo much-needed works which have included a new ceiling, paintwork, light fittings, window furnishings and carpets. The library’s floor plan has also been revised, and shelving and furniture replaced, to increase amenity and provide more comfortable spaces for reading, studying and working. In addition, the Collection housed at the branch has been refreshed and curated to respond to the needs and interests of the local community.
The refurbishment project has been a collaboration between the City of Greater Geelong and Geelong Regional Library Corporation (GRLC). Cr Ron Nelson, Chair of the GRLC, says that updates to the Library will undoubtedly be well-received by the community. “Highton Library is a much-loved branch and these upgrades have ensured a more inviting library and gathering space for the community to enjoy,” Cr Nelson says. “Despite its small size and proximity to other branches in the GRLC network, the library is popular and is used by people from all walks of life, so it is fitting that it has received this much-needed facelift." Normal opening hours resume at Highton Library from today, but please refer here for information about festive season closures.
