Joint statement on marriage equality

Geelong Regional Libraries is a member of the Victorian public library system, basing our charter on the UNESCO Manifesto on Public Libraries.

This manifesto provides that services are provided on the basis of equality of access for all, regardless of age, race, sex, religion, nationality, language or social status.

Inclusiveness,  fairness, compassion and respect are values we believe in emphatically and we support marriage equality because it is consistent with these  values.  All Australians deserve to be treated equally under the law.

As such, we support a Yes vote in the Australian Federal Government’s marriage law postal survey. We also accept that opinion is divided on this issue and hope for a respectful dialogue during the process.
