Geelong Regional Libraries has been significantly impacted by this year’s surge in COVID-19 and winter 'flu cases. During recent months, unplanned staff shortages have meant that we often need to close libraries at short notice or reduce operating hours.
We have been closely monitoring and adjusting the operating hours at many of our libraries to better help us respond to this situation and provide a more continuous service to the community. These changes have assisted us to manage staffing requirements across all our libraries, and minimise the need for last minute closures.
We have undergone significant recruitment recently and are pleased to welcome a number of new staff who will be working across your libraries.
We continue to adjust and adapt our opening hours in line with staff shortages due to illness and we are reintroducing some evening opening hours in response to community requests. These hours take effect from Saturday 1 October:
Supporting the health and wellbeing of our staff and communities, and providing a consistent and high quality service are paramount. We believe these changes will enable us to achieve these goals.
Please refer to the locate section of our website for current opening hours at your local library.
Last-minute changes to opening hours or library closures may still be inevitable from time-to-time and will be communicated on our social media channels:
