Free 24-hour WiFi at your library

Free WiFi is available 24-hours a day at your local library.

As part of our commitment to providing you with free and universal access to information, you can access WiFi hotspots from all our locations (except for Western Heights College).

Outside library opening hours, you can access WiFi immediately outside the library building. You don’t need a password or a PIN – it’s freely available to the general public, tourists and library members alike.

During normal opening hours, WiFi is available within the library using your library membership or a guest pass.

The Surf Coast and Bellarine mobile library also includes free WiFi and has computers, iPads and iPad minis on board for visitor use.

How do I access WiFi in the library?

You’ll need to use a laptop, tablet, smart phone or device that has WiFi capabilities. Make sure your device’s WiFi is switched on, then connect by opening a browser and agreeing to the terms and conditions*. See detailed instructions below. You can also borrow a library device or book a public-internet PC.

What can I access?

By connecting to our WiFi you can gain access to the internet including the library’s eCollections.

Connecting a Windows laptop to WiFi

In the bottom right-hand corner, near the Time and Date display, click on the Wireless Networks icon.
Select the Library network from the list of available networks and click Connect.
Open an Internet Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer) and open a web page, for example: google.com or grlc.vic.gov.au.
Navigate to the terms and conditions window and click and on the I Agree with Policy Above button. You only need to do this once every three months that you're in the library*

*For Barwon Heads and Colac Libraries only- please use this step:when a Wireless Internet Conditions of Use page appears, log in with your barcode and PIN – type the 14-digit barcode number from the back of your library card with no spaces, and the 4-digit PIN for your account.

The page should reload, letting you know your computer is now connected to the internet.

To log off, either use the Wireless Networks area to Disconnect from the Library wireless connection, or just close your computer as usual. After a period of inactivity, your connection will automatically time out and disconnect.

Connecting an iPad (or any iOS / Apple Device) to WiFi

Open the Settings App.
From the left-hand menu options, choose WiFi.
Make sure the WiFi Switch is On.
Select the Library network from the available networks by tapping on the network name.
Navigate to the terms and conditions window and click and on the I Agree with Policy Above button. You only need to do this once every three months that you're in the library*

The page should reload, letting you know your iPad/device is now connected to the internet.
Close the popup window by clicking the Close or Done button in the top right-hand corner.

Connecting an Android Tablet to WiFi

Open the Settings App.
From the left-hand menu options, choose WiFi.
Make sure the WiFi Switch is On.
Select the Library network from the available networks by tapping on the network name, and then pressing Connect.
Open an Internet Browser (Chrome, Internet) and open a web page, for example: google.com or grlc.vic.gov.au.
Navigate to the terms and conditions window and click and on the I Agree with Policy Above button. You only need to do this once every three months that you're in the library*

The page should reload, letting you know your tablet is now connected to the internet.
