Books Beyond Boundaries is a creative arts project now on show at the Dome until 22 December. It features books which have been annotated, altered, or remade by community members of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
Artists David Dellafiora, Teresa Lawrence and Liz McGrath have used imagery, artefacts and techniques to remake books to be individually expressive, idiosyncratic and possibly arcane.
Books Beyond Boundaries is an experimental concept, with participants working alongside the artist facilitators to explore the “book” and “text” to create new meanings and new forms. An alternative library of babel, Books Beyond Boundaries was based at Eastern Hub’s Art Studio and funded by City of Greater Geelong Creative Communities Grant.
Participants included Karingallery artists, the fOrT Afghani Girls Group, St Margarets Primary School grades 5/6 and Oxygen College students, as well as general community members and people with a disability.
A Special Event featuring David Dellafiora discussing the 'Assembling Book' as democratic vehicle will take place on Thursday 6 December, 11am-12.30pm, at Geelong Library & Heritage Centre.
