The Home Library Service delivers library materials to members of the community who are unable to access their local library due to ill health or mobility challenges. This free service is available on a temporary or permanent basis.
Eligible community members are visited on a monthly basis by volunteers, who can deliver pre-ordered items or select material, based on the member's interests and preferences. Volunteers are matched with members to create a friendly, familiar service.
Members of the community, of any age, residing in the Geelong Regional Libraries service area who are:
The Home Library Service's trained volunteers can collect requested library materials and deliver to your home or residential facility. Alternatively, suitable material can be chosen from a personalised reader profile created on the basis of your preferences, and delivered to you.
Resources available include: Books (including Large Print), Audiobooks, DVD''s and Magazines.
Requests for specific items can be made directly to your Home Library Service volunteers, or by contacting the Home Library Service Coordinator.
In addition to this service, Geelong Regional Libraries is committed to increasing access to technology and digital literacy skills to all community members. Any Home Library Service member interested in building these skills can request training in areas such as introduction to iPad/ tablet, introduction to email, using the library catalogue and online library resources, and downloading eBooks and eMagazines from the library website.
Opportunities are currently available to help deliver library materials to participants in private residences and age care facilities, as a Home Library Service Volunteer. Volunteers visit eligible Home Library Service participants on a monthly basis, providing a personalised and familiar service.
